Play Therapy

Have you noticed behavioral changes in your child?

Has your child suffered trauma or abuse?

Does your child act out at school?

Have you wondered if your child would benefit from counseling but think they might be too young?

The answer may be Play Therapy.

What is Play Therapy?

Play Therapy is to children what counseling is to adults. Children interact with their world through play and are often able to express their feelings using play when they don’t have the cognitive ability to express those feelings using words. Children can use play and role playing to work through challenges that are distressing to them.

How Can Play Therapy Benefit My Child?

Play therapy creates a safe place where children can express themselves and work through their problems. Children use play to explore their problems from different perspectives, examine different solutions, and learn coping skills.

How Does Play Therapy Work?

Initially the therapist will allow the child to play however they want. As the therapist becomes familiar with the child’s problems, she will begin to direct the child to play with certain toys and create situations that will allow your child to focus on their problems, express their feelings, and explore solutions. Your child can experience scenarios from other people’s perspectives and understand how their behavior affects others.
